Established 1948   The Herald Democrat January 21, 2010 DENISON - Pearl D. Nelson, a long-time resident of Denison, and recent resident of Lewisville, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 19, 2010 at the age of 95. Pearl was born July 3, 1914 in Savoy, the daughter of Charlie and Janie (Smith) Anderson. She graduated from Whitewright High School. She was a blessing to her entire family for all these years always putting them first. She was always there to rescue us if we needed help. Pearl was the love of our lives, giving, sharing and always having huge meals ready for hungry grands on their arrival, or packing a picnic for them to enjoy on their return trip home. She made sure everyone was well fed, loved and made to feel special. She loved her church activities at Calvary Baptist Church, playing the piano and singing in the choir. Pearl also loved being a creative seamstress and designer for her daughters, the bowling league and taking numerous trips with her children, playing card games with the grands and visiting friends. Pearl enjoyed keeping her home beautifully decorated, while keeping her plants and flowers going year round. We do know she made the best German chocolate cake in the world, and we expected it at every family gathering, she never disappointed. After raising her five children she returned to nursing school to get her diploma, she immediately went to work for the Katy Hospital. Then later retiring from the VA Hospital in Dallas where she specialized in respiratory therapy. Pearl returned to Denison, and continued to work part time in nursing homes as a medication nurse. She tried to retire several times but was always called back again until the age of 79 when she announced she was definitely positively retiring for good. She absolutely loved caring for her patients, some of whom were younger than her but that didn't keep her from calling them her "little people" each one special in her eyes. Pearl is survived and has been surrounded with love by her children, Laura Nelson Bogatarev and husband, Triaon; Bob Nelson and wife, Kaye; Barbara Nelson Dettmann and husband, John; and Jim Nelson and wife, Lynn; along with her 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Yes, indeed we had big birthday parties every year on July 3. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Frankie Nelson Ashbaugh; her parents, Janie and Charlie Anderson; sisters, Annie Mae Reedy, Verba Chumbley and Zale Partain; brothers, Gene Anderson and Glenn Anderson; grandson, Robin Carson; nephews, Robert Chumbley, Jack Charles Anderson; nieces, Shirley Anderson and Priscilla Anderson; and former husband and father of her children, Robert Nelson. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 22, 2010 at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Carl Bilderback and Kevin Nelson officiating. Interment followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. We know she was welcomed into her heavenly home with open arms by her Lord and Savior along with all her loving family, friends, and former patients. The world just lost one of its most caring kind, we miss her already. We love you Mother, Grandmother, Nanny, and now guardian angel. Arrangements were under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, located at 604 W. Main in Denison.
