Established 1948 Lue Nicholson 1936 - 2006 James Bobby Nicholson 1925 - 2011 Funeral services for J. B. (Bob) Nicholson, age 86, of Southmayd, Texas was held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 18, 2011 at the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Sherman, Texas. Arrangements were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, Texas. He went to meet his Lord and loved ones after his battle with Parkinson's disease on November 11, 2011. Bob was born September 22, 1925 to Ralph and Ruby (Ray) Nicholson. He moved with his family to the family farm north of Southmayd in 1934. He spent most all of his life there. He worked in road construction for Shellenberger Inc. for 23 years until they closed. He continued that line of work with Crookham and Vessels and also helped his wife with her early Sunday morning Denison Herald paper route for over 17 years. After retirement he had a goal he wanted to accomplish. He attended the Sherman Library Literacy Program and received a Certificate of Accomplishment in 1993. The new world of reading brought him a lot of joy. His favorite author was Louis Lamour. He said he would get to reading and just imagine himself there in the western. His greatest wish was to use this gift so he could learn more from his Bible in which he avidly studied. After retirement Bob was able to vacation in Colorado. He was able to take his first plane ride to visit family in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. During this trip he also got to see the Pacific Ocean as well as go Sturgeon fishing. Sometimes years later we would talk about the neat places we got to see. As well as our ride on the world's longest gondola. These were things Dad never imagined he would be able to do but he was willing to step out of the norm and take an adventure. Seeing all the beautiful scenery and mountains amazed him. Bob had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. He married Lue (Corbett) Nicholson February 16, 1956. They celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to her death on September 4, 2006. Bob and Lue had three daughters, Delaine Durbin and husband Ken of Bedford; Marsha Blilie of Hurs; and Monica Nicholson and Steve Wright of Sherman. They were blessed with six grandchildren, Misty, Aleah, Deanna, Bradley, Trey and Dane, six great grandchildren, Zachary, Zoe, Madelyn, Meadow, Dalton and Hollie, sisters, Barbara Dowdy of Ft.Worth and Doris Ashinhurst of Euless and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Duane Nicholson. Bob resided the last five years at Texoma Healthcare Center. He made many friends there and always looked forward to their domino games. The family would like to thank those that were a part of his care and their dedication.
