Gladys Mercer, born August 9, 1901, was the third oldest daughter and
8th child born to William Leroy Shero and Ellen Rickard Shero in
Sherman, Texas. She was a student, aged 8 years, residing at
home, 226 W. Houston, in 1910. She first worked for a candy
factory at 223 W. Houston, then as a clerk in a millinery shop on N.
Travis Street. She later worked as an agent for Continental
Trailway Busline office at 210 E. Houston.
