Established 1948 Evelyn Doris Miller 1915 - 1981 Herbert A. Miller 1907 - 2004 Mrs. Miller was born in Waco, Texas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Powell. She died in Sherman, Texas at a local hospital. She attended Sherman High School and wed Herbert A. Miller on June 13, 1936 in Durant, Oklahoma. She served as postmistress for Southmayd, Texas since 1974. She was a member of the National League of Postmasters, National Association of Postmasters in the United States, and Southmayd Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband of Southmayd; sons, Michael L.and John A.Miller of Southmayd; brothers, Murland W. Powell of Dallas, Weldon Powell of Sherman, and Richard Powell of Groves, Texas; sisters, Mrs. Bluebelle Woodward of Cuero, Texas and Mrs. Sue Richardson of Corpus Christi; and 5 grandchildren. Rev. Billy Wilder of Southmayd Baptist Church officiated, followed by interment at Cedarlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Mr. Miller was born in Delaware Bend, Texas, son of William Harrison and Ida M. Lyday Miller. A long time resident of Southmayd, Texas, Mr. Miller died in a nursing home in Sherman, Texas. During his life, he lived in Celeste and Farmersville, Texas; Tucumcari, New Mexico; and Sherman, finally making his home in Southmayd. He married Miss Evelyn Doris Powell on Saturday, June 13, 1936. Mr. Miller was affiliated with the Church of Christ and was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. Throughout his life, he was employed as an auto mechanic, working in Sherman until his retirement in 1973. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years; 5 sisters; and 2 brothers. He is survived by his sons, John A. Miller and wife, Jo; and Michael L. Miller and wife, Elisa, both of Sherman; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were under the care of Waldo Funeral Home, Sherman, Texas.
