Services were held Friday morning in Waldo Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Eva Josephine McBride, 79, formerly of 110 N.  Cleveland, who died Tuesday in a Sherman hospital.  Services were
conducted by Rev. Leon Verphal of Hillsboro First Baptist Church. Burial was in Cedarlawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. McBride was born in Trenton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merlon  Thomas Blanton (sic  should read
Marion Thomas Blanton).  She was married to the late Elmer Elex McBride (sic - aka Sherman E. McBride) in January 1914 at Bonham.  She was a member of the Wolfe City First Christian Church.
Survivors are a son, Tom McBride of Wichita Falls; brother, Wright  Blanton of Bells, sisters, Mrs. Ora Lee Murry (sic Murray) and Mrs. Lewis Chenualt (Fayola Blanton McFarland Chenualt) both of Hobbs, New Mexico; 3 grandchildren and 6

great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Hal Tingle, William Blanton, Roscoe Blanton, Othel Blanton, Guy Owenby, Joe Cox and Cecil Cowan.


(Researcher's Note:  Era Josephine Blanton was the daughter of Marion Thomas Blanton and Josephine Argenia Mathis (aka N.J. Matthews). She was the granddaughter of Rev. Benjamin F. Blanton and Sarah L. Boone. Her paternal great-grandparents were Josiah Blanton and Lucy Westbrook. Her great-great-grandparents were Jeremiah Blanton and Sarah Rebecca Womack of Rutherford Co., North Carolina.)


Thomas Raymond McBride was born November 2, 1914 to Era Josephine Blanton and Elmer Elex McBride in Bonham, Fannin Co., Texas.  Tom was a Major League baseball outfielder for the Boston Red Sox (1943-1947) and Washington Senators (1947-1948).
In 1945 he achieved his best record when he appeared in 100 games for Boston and made 374 plate appearances.  He hit .305 (105 for 344) with 1 home run, 47 runs batted in, and 38 runs scored.  He tied a major league record with 6 RBI in the 4th inning of the second game on August 4th.  Playing against the Washington Senators he hit a bases-loaded double and a bases-loaded triple.  In the American league, Tom's record of 7 triples that season tied him for 8th.
In 1946 he was instrumental in the winning of the pennant for the Red Sox, hotting .301 in 61 games and making no errors in the 43 games he played.  While playing in 5 World Series games, he was 2-for-12 with one RBI.
McBride was purchased by the Washington Senators from the Red Sox on May 12, 1947.  While with Washington he hit a combined .263.  His final major league game was on September 30, 1948.
Tom played in a total of 408 games.  His record was 326-for-1186 (.275), 93 walks and one hit by pitcher, giving him an on base percentage of .328.  He had 2 home runs, 141 RBI, 140 runs scored, and had a batting percentage of .340.  In his 312 outfield appearances and 16 at first base, he handled 815 out of 826 chances successfully which made his overall fielding percentage .987.
In the 1946 World Series, McBride made the first and final outs.
McBride set a major league record of 12 putouts in left field in an extra-inning game played on July 2, 1948.
Tom married Evelyn "Frances" Phares on April 17, 1936 at the First Baptist Church in Sherman, Texas.
