services for Don C. Matthews Sr., age 86, of Sherman, Texas were held at
10:00 AM Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Cedarlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in
Sherman, Texas. Rev. James Crawford of Cornerstone Baptist Church officiateed.
Arrangements were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman.
Don was born on July 27, 1924 in Dodd City, Texas, the son of Allie and Myrtle Blake Matthews. He married Dorothy Benedict on December 28, 1981 in Durant, Oklahoma. Don was an Auxiliary Police Officer with the City of Sherman for several years. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Matthews of Sherman; son, Johnny Matthews and wife Melinda of Mesquite, Texas; daughter, Kim Matthews of Colorado Springs, Colorado; seven grandchildren; two brothers, W.E. Matthews and wife Maurine of Ennis, Texas and Boyd Matthews of Indiana; one sister, Eva Riley; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents and son, Don C. Matthews Jr. The family would like to thank Home Hospice of Grayson County for all of the special care and kindness. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Home Hospice at 505 W. Center Street Sherman, TX 75090.
