for Earl Jenkins, 79, of Roswell were held Thursday morning, April 19,
2007 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. He passed away April 24, 2007 at
a local nursing home. Robert Holcomb of First Baptist
Church officiated. Interment was held Monday morning, April 23, 2007 at
Cedaw Lawn Memorial Park in Sherman, Texas. Earl was born September 21, 1927 in Robeson County, North Carolina to Sandy and Benna Grimsley Jenkins. They preceded him in death as did 2 brothers. On July 27, 1976 he married Laura May Riddle. She survived him at the family home. Survivors also include a sister, Lucille Barnres of Orrum, North Carolina; and several great-nieces and nephews. Earl graduated from Fairmont High School in North Carolina and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force o nApril 1, 1967, after serving more than 20 years. The majority of his services was at Walker Air Force Base, Roswell. He was also stationed in England, Guam, Moroccos and Wyoming. On April 24, 1967 he went to work at Ball and Ray Clothiers at Roswell. Earl worked there until December 1989 when the store closed. At that time he was co-owner of the store. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Roswell. He worked in the 7th and 8th grade Sunday School class departments for 16 years. Earl was active in helping start the TV ministry working as a camera person and then director during the 45 years he was a member of the church. He served as Deacon Chairman for 3 years and was on various other committees. Deacons of First Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers.
