Established 1948 Gladys Vera Hensley 19 April 1911 - 22 February 2008 Luther Dude Hensley 10 September 1910 - 25 February 2008 Luther "Dude" Hensley, 97, passed away at 5:00 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2008 at Wilson N. Jones Hospital. He was born in Queen City, Arkansas on September 10, 1910, son of Martin Benjamin Hensley and Maggie Lee Chapman Hensley. On June 6, 1931 he married Gladys Patterson in Glenwood, Arkansas. She preceded him in death February 22, 2008. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, February 27, 2008 at North Hills Baptist Church in Whitesboro, Texas with Rev. John Reynolds officiating. Interment followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park, Sherman, Texas. Dude's early years were spent farming. After moving to Texas, he was employed by Quaker Oats and Merritt Builders and then worked as an independent carpenter and contractor, building homes in Sherman and Denison. And as a millwright he was involved in the construction of mills in Grapevine and Weimer, Texas. The last 10 nyears of his career, he was employed by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as a boat builder, and constructed many other specially designed projects needed by coastal employees. Gladys always referred to Dude as the best neighbor a person could ever have - he never failed to help a neighbor in need. Dude was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; and 3 sisters. He is survived by his children: Ben Hensley and wife, Sheila of Pottsboro; Charles Hensley and wife, Sonja, of Austin; Patricia Farm and husband, Buzz, of Syracuse, Indiana; 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Gladys Veera Patterson Hensley was born April 19, 1911 in Pike Co., Arkansas, daughter of James C. and Mary Etta Patterson. She married "Dude" Hensley on June 6, 1931.
