Hill 1936 - 2020 The Herald Democrat February 19, 2012 A Celebration of Life for Mary Jo Hill, 73, of Sherman was held Monday afternoon, February 20, 2012 at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dennis Garland and hospice Chaplain Cherie Wallis-Jackson officiating. She was laid to rest in the Chapel on the Hill mausoleum at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers were Fred Thompson, Dwain Roberts, Mark Beardsley, David Nixon, Hoyte Ridlehuber, Jonathan Hill, Thomas R. Shea, Jr. and Melvin Bertrand. Mary Jo was born August 29, 1938 in Kilgore, Texas, daughter of A.T. Shoemaker, Sr.and Estelle Shoemaker and went in the presence of her Lord on Thursday, February 16, 2012 from the Texoma Health Care Center in Sherman. Mrs. Hill was a graduate of Whitesboro High School in 1956. She then attended Texas Tech and later Austin College. She married the love of her life, John D. Hill, on June 30, 1961 in Whitesboro. Mrs. Hill was very involved in community service as a member of the Sherman Service League. She enjoyed helping people and her passion was being involved with her sons. She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, A.T. Shoemaker, Jr.; Delbert Shoemaker; Richard Lee Shoemaker; and Larry Shoemaker. She is survived by her loving husband of Sherman; sons, James Dale Hill of Austin; Raymond Mark Hill and wife, Carmen, of Ft. Worth; and John Kermit Hill of Sherman; grandchildren, Harrison and Cameron of Denver; and Johnathan and Leslie of Ft. Worth; sisters, Kathy Thomson of Big Sandy; and Betty Gardner and husband, Ray, of Shreveport; cousin, Barbara Jean Freath and husband, Bill, of Plano; as well as other extended family members and close friends. Memorials may be made in Mary Jo's honor to the Texoma Area Red Cross or the church or charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life for John Delano Hill, 84, of Sherman was held Thursday morning, December 31, 2020 at First United Methodist Church, Sherman, with Joe Ed Goolsby officiating. He was laid to rest in the Chapel on the Hill mausoleum at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Jonathan Hill, Dan Darland, John W. Ellis, Jr.;, Duke Walker, Thomas R. Shea, Jr., and Roger Sanders. John was born July 16, 1936 in Hendrix, Oklahoma, son of John D. Hill and Thelma Gardner and went to the presence of the Lord on Sunday, December 27, 2020 from the Texoma Medical Center in Denison. Mr. Hill was a graduate of Borger High School, Borger, Texas in 1954. He then obtained a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree from West Texas State University where he taught as a professor before moving to Sherman and teaching at Austin College. He then obtained his law degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas in 1965. He married the love of his life, Mary Jo Shoemaker, on June 30, 1961 in Whitesboro. Mr. Hill was revered as a trial attorney for more than 50 years in Sherman, Texas. He was involved in various civic and professional organizations and served for a period as chair of the Grayson County Republican party. He was known to be a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, as well as a consummate gentleman. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents and sisters, Eudora Darland and Patricia Rrandolph. He is survived by his sons, James Dale Hill of Gardena, California; Raymond Mark Hill and wife, Carmen, of Burleson, Texas; and John Kermit Hill of Sherman; grandchildren: Harrison Hill and Cameron Hill of Denver; Jonathan Hill and wife, Tracie, of Burleson; Leslie Hill of Burleson; great-grandchildren: Emery Hill and Kyler Hill of Burleson; and other extended family members and close friends, including his most special friend, Pat Smith. Memorials may be made in John's honor to the Texoma Area Red Cross or the church or charity of your choice.
