Established 1948 Sherman - Kathleen Ione Thorpe Hard lived her life in the service of others. Kathy, 86, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018 in Sherman. She was a devoted wife, a spoiling grandmother and professional caregiver who served others when they neede it most. Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, May 19 at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Rev. George Cline of the Grace Bible Church officiated. A memorial service followed Saturday at Grace Bible Church. Kathy was born October 8, 1931 in Shidler, Oklahoma to Jodie and Katie Royce Rhoten. She graduated from high school in Fairfax, Oklahoma in 1949 and the St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Ponca City in 1952 where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. Kathy spent her 50-year professional life serving others as a nurse. She was director of nursing at Wilson N. Jones Hospital for 15 years. She retired after 23 years, having worked her way up to Vice President of the hospital. She later worked at the Bonham VA Hospital. She took great pride in nursing and the management of the other nurses. She was a member of Grace Bible Church and past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Order of the Rainbow for Girls, Altrusa International and several nursing associations. She is survived by her husband,, Billie Hard, of Sherman; son, Sam Thorpe and wife, Kris, of Sherman; daughter, Becki Bolen and husband, Stephen, of Pottsboro; five grandchildren, Blake Bolen, Lauren Bolen, Travis Thorpe, Taylor Van Kirk, and Zach Van Kirk; and two great-grandchildren, Amelia Thorpe and Wren Thorpe. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Carl V. Thorpe; two brothers, Kenneth Rhoten and Elvin Rhoten; and one sister, Mabel Ward. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America at 5430 Lyndon B.
