Established 1948   Funeral services for Leroy Hickson were held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church 1615 S. Travis Sherman, Texas. Elder Johnny Wilson, Sr. officiated and burial followed at the Cedarlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers were Fred Thompson, Jr., Dwayne Thompson, Corey Rockins, James Bowen, Cedric Bunn and John McNeely. Services were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. He passed away on January 1, 2009 at the Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman. Leroy was born on December 27, 1919 in Sherman, Texas, the son of Charlie and Lula Mae Hawkins Hickson. He married Vernee Boddie on June 5, 1950. She preceded him in death on September 6, 2006. Leroy was a Mason, a member of the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church and he was a former Coach of Mickey Mantle Little League. Leroy loved Big Band, Jazz and various types of music. Mr. Hickson is survived by his daughter, Verna Lee (Rockins) Durden and husband Charles of Sunnyvale, Texas; son, Lawrence Rockins of Sherman, Texas; four grandchildren, Debbie Durden of Rowlett, Texas; Corey Rockins of Sherman, Texas; Stephanie (Durden) Fitch and husband Jarrod of The Colony, Texas; and Markayla Rockins of Sherman, Texas. He is also survived by his family caregiver, Lanora Lane of Sherman, Texas and a host of other family and friends. Leroy was preceded in death by his wife Vernee Hickson; brothers, Fred Hickson and Wesley E. Brown; sister, Lucinda Savage; and granddaughter Debra Gail Durden.
