Established 1948    Services for Jack Waylan Hansard were held on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman with VFW Chaplain Billy Williams, from local Post 2772, officiating. Graveside funeral honors were held following the service at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Jack, 87, was born on May 24, 1925, to Kugga Exive Blanton Hansard and Earl Hansard in Bells, Texas, and passed from this life on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital - WNJ. In March 1948, he married Mary Frances Fletcher in Sherman; they were married for 52 years until her death in 2000. He is survived by son Greg Hansard of Dallas, Texas; and daughters, Donna Rogers and husband Chuck of Denison, Texas; and Lana Owens and husband Randy of Little Rock, Arkansas. Grandchildren are Leslie Cuevas and husband Cory of McKinney, Texas; Brant Owens and wife Kari, and Erin Dees and husband Drew of Little Rock, Arkansas; Leanne Farber and husband Aaron of Tucson, Arizona; Alex Robertson and husband Jeff of Dallas, Texas; and Marisa Hansard of Allen, Texas. Seven great-grandchildren include Ethan, Tristan and Tatum Cuevas; Mary Elizabeth and Benjamin Dees; and McKenzie and Annie Owens. He is also survived by one brother, Ray Hansard and wife Mary of Irivng, Texas; his loving friend and companion of the past 11 years, Lillian "Lil" Roberts Oribin, and their little dog Miss Molly; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and another brother, Granvolee Hansard. Pallbearers were Kent Beckham, Cory Cuevas, Ray Flood, Brant Owens, Randy Owens and Chuck Rogers. Jack graduated from Bells High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class in 1946. He was a loyal member of the local VFW Post 2772 where he was one of the oldest living WWII members and was recently honored as member of the year. In his younger years, Jack worked with a crew that helped build the Denison dam, and he enjoyed playing league softball and played on many local championship teams. He owned a small Mobil service station in Whitewright, Texas in the mid-40s, and later moved to Sherman where he worked for Gladiola (Fant) Milling. He ended his working life when he retired in 1989 from Johns-Manville in Denison, Texas, after 30 years of loyal service. Throughout his life Jack was an avid vegetable and berry gardener and proudly shared his bounty with family, friends and neighbors. He could make just about anything grow in just about any kind of soil. He lived his whole life in the Bells/Whitewright/Sherman area and enjoyed telling the stories of his life there. Jack loved watching his grandchildren become young adults and was so grateful that he lived to see his seven great-granchildren. He was a member of East Sherman Baptist Church. The family and Lil wish to thank the staff at Texas Oncology - Sherman and the nurses at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital - WNJ for the loving care given to Jack during his extended illness.
