Established 1948 The Denison Press Friday, May 11, 1956 pg. 1 SHERMAN MAN DIES IN CAR ACCIDENT SOUTH OF COLBERT Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Barrett Funeral Home in Sherman for Henry H. Gates, 37, 1114 S. Montgomery, Sherman, who was killed in an auto accident south of Colbert early Sunday morning. Rev. Ed Barcus, pastor of First Methodist church, officiated and interment was in Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Gates' car is reported to have overturned, killing him and injuring his companion, William Godfrey, 32, Dallas. Born December 31, 1918 in Bonham, Mr. Gates was the son of Henderson S. Gates and the former Ethel Huffaker. He was educated in the Sherman schools. He came to Grayson County in 1925, marrying the former Julia Thompson in 1936 at Sherman. He was an employe of Texas Telephone Co. in Sherman. A World War II veteran, her served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945. Mr. Gates was a member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ. Survivors are a daughter, Betty Gates of Denton; a son, Robert H. Gates, Kerrville; a sister, Mrs. J.W.Clegg, Dallas; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henderson S. Gates, Sherman.
