Graveside services for Wynona Gibbs, 87, of Sherman, were held Friday morning, October 14, 2011 at Cedarlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. A.D. Kyle officiating. Mrs. Gibbs passed from this life on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 in Sherman.
Wynona Wilma Gibbs was born on April 5, 1924 in Sardis, Oklahoma, daughter of Moses James and Emma Anderson James. Wynona attended grade schools at the Chilocco Indian School near Newkirk, Oklahoma and graduated high school at the Indian boarding school, Carter Seminary, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. She later attended the Wilson N. Jones nursing school during World War II from 1944-1947. She was in the cadet program, and graduated as a registered nurse. She married Joe Gibbs on November 27, 1947 in McKinney, Texas. She worked at Community Hospital and Medical Plaza as O.R. Director 30 years combined, retiring in 1989 after 42 years of service. Wynona was a longtime member of East Sherman Baptist Church. She enjoyed church activities, getting together with her Sunday school class, and loved reading the Holy Bible. Wynona was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers, and OU and OSU football.
Mrs. Gibbs was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Woodrow, Cecil, and Eugene James; and a sister, Naomi Rainwater.
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 64 years, Joe, of the Sherman; son, Teddy Gibbs and wife, Kim, of Lewisville, Texas, and their family, a daughter, Traci Gibbs, a son, Travis Gibbs and wife, Melissa, and their daughters, Kailey and Valorie; son, Michael Gibbs and wife, Gwen, of Denison, and their family, a son, Charles Beasley and wife, Kim, of Anna, Texas, and their son, Kamden; one sister, Ramona Hartgers, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and a sister-in-law, Shirley Thompson, and husband, Dean, of Denison.
