Guthrie 1909 - 2003 Herald Democrat January 7, 2011 SHERMAN - Funeral services for Evelyn Adams Guthrie were held Saturday afternoon, January 8, 2011 at Waldo Funeral Home. Pastor Rusty Denny of the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church officiated. Burial followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Guthrie, 93, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Renaissance. Evelyn was born August 1, 1917 in Lone Elm, daughter of Frank and Bessie (Stevenson) Brown and was one of 4 children. Evelyn married Phillip Wise Adams on November 23, 1940 and worked at the Bonham Cotton Mill. In 1943 they moved to Sherman where she employed at the Sherman Cotton Mill. In 1971 she began work at Lilley's Department Store, retiring in 1982. Phillip passed away in 1984 after 42 years of marriage. On September 20, 1986 Evelyn married Lowell Curtis Guthrie. They had been married 16 years when he passed away in 2003. After selling her home of 54 years at 510 N. Carr in Sherman, Evelyn moved to The Renaissance in 2005. Mrs. Guthrie was a lifelong member of the Church of God. Evelyn is survived by one niece, Brenda May and her husband, Jerry, of Arlington; one nephew, Steve Melton and his wife, Nancee, of Plano; 2 great-nieces, Alicia May and Jennifer May, both of Arlington; and numerous cousins. Mrs. Guthrie was preceded in death by her parents, husbands; brother, Homer Brown; and 2 sisters, Grace Knight and Vera Mae Melton and her husband, JD. Sherman, Texas - Funeral services for Lowell C. Guthrie were held Saturday afternoon, August 9, 2003 at the Pathway Church of God. Rev. Rickie Lee and Rev. Bill Lee of the church officiated. Burial followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Guthrie passed away Thursday, August 7, 2003 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center. He was born June 20, 1909 in Fannin County, son of Marvin C. Guthrie and Cara Faye Miller Guthrie. He married Ruby Lee Hess on March 22, 1936 in Tom Bean. He married Mary Evelyn Adams on September 20, 1986 in Sherman. Mr. Guthrie was a longtime member of the Pathway Church of God. He is preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers. Mr. Guthrie is survived by his wife, Mary Evelyn Guthrie, Sherman, Texas; 2 daughters, Frances Keen Whitworth and husband, Vernon, Sherman, Texas ; and Ruth Wilson and husband, Larry, of Leonard, Texas; 2 brothers, Marvin Guthrie, Denison, Texas; and Bob Guthrie, California; 2 sisters, Wilma Graham, Denison, Texas and Mary Garner, Denison, Texas; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pallbearers were Michael Wilson, Michael Lemley, Billy Keene, Jimmy Guthrie, Jerry May and Larry Ray.
