Established 1948 Debra L. DeHorney 23 December 1957 - Thurman C. DeHorney, Sr. 24 February 1950 - 8 January 2016 PFC US Army Vietnam Air Medal Thurman
was born in Denison, Texas on February 24, 1950, son of Rev. George and
Rosie DeHorney, Sr. He received his education from the Denison
Independent School District. After graduating from high school,
Thurman enlisted in the U.S. Army where he proudly served his country
as a Medical Specialist. At the completion of his enlistment,
Thurman furthered his education at UCLA, receiving his Bachelor of
Science degree in Counseling. He worked as a civilian Quality
Control Inspector for the U.S. Air Force and retired after many years
of service. Thurman served as a Deacon at Mt. Vernon Baptist
Church and later answered his calling to preach God's Word, following
in his father's footsteps. He served as a 7th Day Adventist
Minister and a proud member of the Emmaus Community Organization, and
also attended the Bible Theologian Institute. On March 15, 2008,
Thurman married Ms. Debra Brownlow. They were the love of each
other's eye. He and Debra served as Cub Scout leaders and in
several community organizations. He was a strong advocate for the
Salvation Army and Goodwill, giver over 1,000 volunteer hours of
service to them. Thurman served as Associate Pastor of Mt. Vernon
Baptist Church and was called to pastor Iron Ore Baptist Church in
Denison. He loved studying the word of God, singing in the choir,
spending quality time with his family. He sang with the music
group, "Texoma Gospel Saints" and had a great love for dogs and
fishing. Rev. DeHorney passed away from this life on Friday, January 8, 2016 with his loving wife, Debra, by his side. He has now joined the Lord's Army of Angels. His father preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memories: his best friend and devoted wife; children, James Finnell of Los Angeles, California; Thurman DeHorney, Jr. and wife, Lucy, of Ft. Worth, Texas; Ashley DeHorney of Los Angeles, California; Shawn DeHorney of Lancaster, California; and Charisse Thomas of McKinney, Texas; mother, Rosie Mae Jackson, of Los Angeles; brothers, George DeHorney, Jr. and wife, Beverly; Jerry DeHorney, Sr. and wife, Francina; Robert DeHorney; Paul DeHorney and wife, Sheila; Richard DeHorney; Eddie DeHorney and wife, Martha; Harold DeHorney and wife, Samira; and Anthony DeHorney and wife, Alisha; sisters, Cynthia Brown and husband, Alvin, Sr.; Phyllis Akers and husband, Randall; Shirley Watson and husband, Ebbie; Kristi Roberson and husband, Terry; and Felicia Hockoday and husband, Aubrey; mother-in-law, Rosa Brownlow; step-mother, Ola F. DeHorney; sisters-in-law, Verna Trotter; Cynthia Coleman and husband, Lawrence; and Eloise Glaze; brothers-in-law, Johnny Brownlow and Earl Brownlow and wife, Cynthia; 7 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
