Delores "Dee" Loreace Brewster Doss was born June 14, 1930, daughter of Charles Brewster and Mabel Allen Brewster in Sherman, Texas. Being the oldest of a large household she assisted her parents with taking care of the younger siblings. She graduated from Fred Douglas High school in 1947. On November 3, 1948 she married Ray Doss in Bonham, Texas and then returned to Sherman. To this union they were blessed with 3 children: Wanda, Judith and Patricia. As a homemaker, she ran a tight ship and ensured her family was taken care of which was very important to her. Delores started her work career at an early age. As a teenager, she worked with her dad in his wood floor finishing business, prepping floors and had babysitting jobs. After marriage, she worked min a clothing shop as a seamstress, as an elevator operator at Montgomery Ward, and in the linen room of Wilson N. Jones hospital. She then worked at Texas Instruments as a Quality Control Inspector and retired after 27 years in 1992. Delores was baptized at and a member of Greater New Hope Baptist Church where she also served as an usher. She was an Eastern Star. In her younger years, being an awesome seamstress, she facilitated a weekly Sewing Club in her home; she loved bowling and was a member of a Bowling League and socialized with the many Social Clubs in Sherman. She loved to travel and go to live concerts of her favorite artists. If you needed you ears pierced, you called Mrs. Doss. She accepted you unconditionally and always made everyone feel comfortable. She had a genuine concern not only for her family but anyone else in the community. The decor in her home told the story of her life. You could tell immediately family was very important to her. You would love to hear the sound of her laughter and would always feel better after talking with her. She was an excellent storyteller and she had infinite knowledge and wisdom. No one could tell it like Mama!! She would share the "Merch" as she called it. Mama, Grandmama, Great-Grandmama, Aunt "Lois" taught us by example so much over the years: how to find power and strength through difficult times, acceptance of ourselves and others, and through her love for us, how to love others. Her heart was so big, her stories so inspiring, and the love she gave will last a lifetime. So many people loved her, looked up to her and saw her as their "grandmother". We will miss her greeting when we walk in the door, our special one on one conversations with her, and her dance "performances" when she hears a song she likes. Delores was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Judith Doss Jones; 5 brothers, Charles G.
