Lloyd Wagner DeWitt 28 April 1922 - 17 February 1955 William Lloyd DeWitt, son of John Thomas Dewitt and Virginia D. "Jennie" Bell, died in his sleep of heart failure.
He was 16 years of age when a Texas rancher, Gunter, came to his part of Kentucky buying horses. The rancher told William he had a job at his ranch if he ever came to Texas. Shortly after the rancher left, William took one of the family mules, some provisions, and set out for Texas. He worked for meals at farms along the way. One farmer wanted him to stay permanently, but the Texas pull was too much. William arrived in Texas when he was 17 and found the Gunter ranch. He was hired and worked there until his marriage to Lela Williams. He then went to work at Katy Railroad where he stayed until his retirement shortly before his death. - - - Find-A-Grave Cedarlawn Cemetery Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson County TXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
