Ruth E. Cathey 1905 - 1986 The Denison Press Friday, March 8, 1957 pg.6 Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Johnson-Moore chapel for Laney T. Cathey, 79, who died in a local hospital Monday morning after a lingering illness. Rev. George Walker, pastor of Hyde Park Presbyterian church, assisted by former pastor, Dr. Guy Duff, officiated and interment was in Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Cathey was a retired bridge contractor and had lived in Denison since 1914. He was born in Hillsboro November 3, 1877, and received his schooling in Hillsboro schools. He was married to Katie Bauman in 1904. He worked for many years as a railroad bridge steele contractor for various railroads in the Middle West. Later he began doing bridge work for county and state governments. He retired 4 years ago because of ill health. He had been critically ill for 2 weeks before his death. He was a 32nd degree Mason and had belonged to to the Masonic Lodge for 50 years. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. Survivors are his wife; 5 daughters, Miss Ruth Cathey, Mrs. Roy Hart and Mrs. H.H. Brigham of Denison; Mrs. J.E. Lortz, Sherman; and Mrs. H.R. Duck of Lone Star; 3 brothers, Jewel Cathey, Waco; Ollie Cathy, San Francisco; and H.E. Fleming, San Francisco; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Craig, Dallas; and 5 grandchildren.
