Established 1948 Raymond D. Cathey 1924 - 2011 Duell M. Cathey 1927 - The Herald Democrat May 26, 2011 SHERMAN - Funeral services for Raymond D. Cathey were held Friday afternoon, May 27 at Waldo Funeral Home. Rev. Albert Fisher of the Key Memorial United Methodist Church officiated. Entombment followed in the Chapel of Memories at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Cathey, 86, passed away Tuesday, May 24 at Texas Health Presbyterian-WNJ. Raymond was born August 17, 1924 in Sherman, son of Earl and Ocia Stovall Cathey. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1945 and married Duell Monroe on November 3, 1945. Raymond worked for 5 years at Montgomery Ward's, before beginning a 34 year career at GTE. He was a lifetime member of Key Memorial United Methodist Church and was an active church member, serving as a trustee and on numerous church committees. Mr. Cathey was very involved in the Key Care Mission, taught children's Sunday school classes for many years, and was a volunteer for vacation bible school. In retirement, Raymond enjoyed traveling and attending Sherman High School athletic events. Mr. Cathey is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Duell Cathey, of Sherman; one daughter, Jan Cathey, and husband, Sam Jorge of Ft. Worth; one son, Damon Cathey, of Richardson; one step-grandchild, Tony Jorge, of Ft. Worth; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Louise Sizemore and Lelia Fay Blevins; and one brother, Earl Cathey, Jr. Memorials may be made to Key Memorial UMC at 901 E.
