Katherine Bryant, 85, of Sherman, formerly of Edna, Texas, passed away
on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Homestead of Sherman. A
Celebration of Life to honor her legacy was held Wednesday morning,
March 19, 2014 at the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church located at
1615 S. Travis Street in Sherman. Dr. G.W. Warren, Sr.,
pastor, officiated.
Katherine was born August 10, 1928 in Rosebud, Texas, daughter of Charlie and Roberta Heiliton. Growing up, she attended public schools in Edinburg, Texas. While in Edinburg she accepted Christ at an early age, and was a faithful member of the Lily of the Valley Baptist Church, where she dedicated her time to the youth department and serving as the church pianist. In the early 1960s Katherine relocated to Edna, Texas where she left her legacy. She continued her education by receiving a certification from the Texas Education Agency and a certificate in Nursing Assistance from the Gulf Coast Nursing Home in 1974. Katherine's education gave her a career as an Emergency Medical Technician for Jackson County, Texas. In addition to her educational accomplishments, Katherine worked in the community and church. She was part of a local committee to establish a park for African American children. She also served as an usher and pianist for Shiloh Baptist Church for several years. Katherine was a loving mother to 9 children, consisting of 5 boys and 4 girls. Although her compassion for children will be deeply missed, her spirit will continue to live for an eternity. On Wednesday, March 12, 2014, Katherine entered into eternal life from the Homestead of Sherman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Coleman Heliton and Roberta Hines-Heliton; brothers, Ollie Lee Heliton; Charles Heliton; Roland Heliton; Nathaniel Heliton; Thomas Heliton; and R.C. Heliton; sisters: Bertha Fowler-Heliton and Pearlie Heliton; grandchildren: Abner DeVault and Michael Shawn Hines. She leaves to cherish her memories: children, Claudia DeVault of Houston, Texas; Diana Hines and husband, Michael, of Vancouver, Washington; Emma Hunt of Sherman, Texas; Alonzo Hunt of Edna, Texas; Jonathan Armstrong of Sherman, Texas; Tvan Bryant, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; Annette Coulter of Edna, Texas; Yvonne Bryant of Sherman, Texas; and Maxwell Bryant and wife, Yoani, of Austin, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, James Heliton, Sr. and wife, Johynne, of Wichita Falls, Texas; sisters, Doris Dowdy and husband, John, of Suffolk, Virginia; and Viola Jackson and husband, Charles, of Sherman, Texas Cedarlawn Cemetery Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson County TXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
