Established 1948 The Herald Democrat December 4-5, 2008 Frank Leon 'Harry' Brown, 90, of Colbert, Oklahoma died Tuesday, December 2 in a Sherman hospital. Harry was born February 3, 1918 to Frank M. and Wilma Dodson Brown in the Pink Hill Community. He was the youngest of 13 children. Harry was a kind, gentle man who loved animals, the outdoors and his family with a quiet dignity and a fierce loyalty. A loving husband, devoted father and caring family man, Harry served in the U.S. Army during World War II, first as a tank engine instructor in New York and later in the European Theater. He received an honorable discharge. Harry married Velma Jean Sharp in 1948 and they had one daughter, Kathy, who was born in 1954. He was an active member of Parkside Baptist Church in Denison for many years. He worked for Pillsbury in Denison for many years until his retirement. Before retirement, he and Jean moved to Colbert, Oklahoma where he farmed and enjoyed life at a slower pace. Memorial Services were scheduled for 11:00 AM Friday, December 5, 2008 at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel in Sherman. Rev. Thomas Beall and Frank Brown, a nephew, conducted the services. Burial was at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman. Pallbearers were Jon Brown, Kelly Brown, Bobby Crews, Terry Taylor. Harry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean; and daughter, Kathy; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. The Herald Democrat May 1, 2011 Services for Jean Brown were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2011 in the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Her nephew, Frank Brown, and family friend, Jack Pierce, officiated. Honorary pallbearers were Kelly Brown, Bobby Crews, Danny Akers, Harold Holder, Gordon Green, Stan Perkins, and David Shelton. Burial took place at 2:30 at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Jean passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Texoma Medical Center at the age of 86. She was born September 21, 1924 in Sherman, daughter of Donald and Ethel Morrison Sharp. She graduated from Sherman High School as Salutatorian. She was a gifted artist, the recipient of numerous awards. She worked mainly in oils, pastels, watercolors, and ink. She was part owner, contributor, and in charge of communications at Images Art Gallery in Denison. Her involvement with the area's arts community over the years also included teaching art at Grayson County College through the Continuing Education program, and working at ArtWorks and Pat Waymon Gallery. She was a member of Parkside Baptist Church and the Sherman Art League. Preceded in death by her husband; her parents and sister, Verna Newcomb, Jean is survived by her daughter, Kathy Brown of Denison; numerous nieces and nephews.
