Joe Carrol Bumpass left this world to be with his Lord and Saviour on July 28, 2021 at his home, following several lingering health challenges.
Joe was born January 14, 1942, the youngest of 6 children, to parents Lewis and Sallie Shaw Bumpass. He grew up working on the family farm in Achille, Oklahoma, and attended school in Hendrix.  Joe was a blue collar genius, known to family, neighbors and friends as the guy that could fix anything.  Joe enjoyed tinkering in his garage, but it was his love for restoring antique tractors that was his true passion and led friends to nickname him "Tractor Joe."  He loved attending the annual tractor show in Hendrix, and on occasion could be heard correcting (loudly) tractor restoration programs on RFD-TV for minor mistakes, such as applying an incorrect decal on a newly restored tractor.
Joe was also known for being a prankster and the life of the party.  Even his grandchildren and their friends would gather around him to listen to stories from his childhood and other antics he was known for.  He rarely passed up an opportunity to joke and pull pranks on his good natured family and friends.
Joe married Sandra Fowler on November 1, 1963.  They moved from Oklahoma to Sherman, Texas in 1936 and had 2 daughters.  He worked in a number of family businesses doing everything from driving a truck to being in sales and store management.  In 1977 he went to work as a machine operator at Sherman Wire.  There, he was a quick study and his mechanical and electrical skills led him to be promoted to Maintenance Manager quickly.  He wold work in the wire mill business for 26 years, and help the company transition 3 times to new owners, Gilbert & Bennett, Sherman Wire and finally Keystone Group.  He retired in 2003.
Joe was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Bessie Calfee and Nelma "Sissy" Hull; brother, L.A. Bumpass; and son-in-law, David Nitcholas.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years; daughters Johanna Nitcholas-Ivey and husband, Hoyt; and Sheryl Corry and husband, Dave.  He is also survived by his sisters, Virginia Mullins and Norma Cater; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Bumpass were held Saturday morning, August 7, 2021 at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Samuel James Moore officiating.  Private interment was held in Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.  Arrangements were under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home in Denison. - - - Fisher Funeral Home
