The Herald Democrat March 4, 2012 KNOXVILLE, Tennessee - Lou Bryan, 82, of Knoxville, formerly of Sherman, Texas, passed away on Wednesday evening, February 29, 2012 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Lou was born September 25, 1929 in Grapevine, Texas and was the daughter of Fayne and Eris Metcalf. Lou graduated from Sadler High School in 1946. She attended Wilson J. Jones Hospital School of Nursing 1946-1949 and graduated as a Registered Nurse. She was married to Maurice Bryan on March 3, 1950. Lou was a charter member of Fairview Baptist Church from 1951 to 1996. She had been a member of Grace Baptist Church in Knoxville since 1996. Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Bryan; parents, Fayne and Eris Metcalf; brother, Bernie Metcalf; and sister-in-law, Frances Metcalf. Survivors include her daughters, Mary Elizabeth Faucett and Rebecca Bryan Smith (Gary); step-sons, Joe Martin Bryan and Riley Max Bryan; grandchildren, Darrell Faucett, Kristen Faucett, Bradley Smith, and Shannon Smith; great-grandchildren, Caleb Cummings and Katelyn Cummings. Graveside services and interment were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 10, at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman, Texas under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Rev. Bill Whitehead of the Fairview Baptist Church officiated. Sherman Democrat August 16, 1959 Howe - Funeral services were held in First Baptist Church, Howe, for Joe J. Bryan, 65, of Howe, a Frisco Railroad employee and deacon at North Park Baptist Church, Sherman, for 25 years, who died at 1 p.m. Friday in a Sherman hospital. Rev. Roy Cloudt of Howe and Rev. Claude Johnston and Rev. Darrell Morgan, both of Sherman, Baptist ministers, officiated. Burial was in Cedarlawn Cemetery, directed by Dannel Funeral Home. Mr. Bryan was born August 12, 1894 in Kosse, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Riley M. Bryan. On February 21, 1959, he married Vera Franklin in Howe. He had been a railroader for 49 years, serving 38 of those with the Frisco. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and a member of Howe Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife; two sons, Joe Ray Bryan of Beaumont and R.M. Bryan of Sherman; two step-daughters, Mrs. James Anderson and Mrs. Harold Mitchell of Denison; two brothers, Riley Bryan of Orange, Virginia; and Claude Bryan of Phoenix, Arizona; sister, Mrs. R.L. Jaynes of Longview; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Wayne E. Atkins, T.B. McDuffy, W.R. Stevens, A.L. O'Hanlon, John Simmons, and Harold Pante. SHERMAN - Graveside services for Vera Geneva Bryan, 86, longtime Sherman resident who died Thursday in a Sherman hospital, were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Rev. Don Wood officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Dannel Funderal Home. Mrs. Bryan was born August 8, 1902, in Ellis County, daughter of Matt Monroe Tuley and Susie Howard Roberts Tuley. She attended Ellis County schools. In February 1959, she married Joe J. Bryan in Howe. He died in August 1959. Mrs. Bryan was employed in sales and retired from Vaughan's Department Store. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Anderson of Denison and Carol Sue Mitchell of Sherman; brother, R.C. Tuley of Ennis; sister, Mrs. Wade Smith of Luella; and two grandchildren.
