Established 1948 Alvin Ross Atchley 10 February 1919 - 6 February 2012 Mary Dell Atchley 27 June 1921 - 6 August 2003 Alvin Ross Atchley 10 February 1919 - 6 February 2012 CFC US Navy WWII Herald Democrat February 8, 2012 SHERMAN - Alvin Ross Atchley was born February 10, 1919 in Kirkland, Texas to John Atchley and Maggie (Johnson) Atchley and passed from this life Monday, February 6, 2012 at the age of 92. Mr. Atchley was raised and graduated from Kirkland schools. He then joined the United States Navy on May 13, 1938 and fought during WWII. He spent almost seven and a half years in the service and was a chief fire controlman upon his separation. He was very proud of his service. Ross married Mary Davis on March 16, 1946 in Midland, Texas. She preceded him in death on August 6, 2003. They had lived in several places before coming to Sherman in 1964. Ross was employed by General Telephone working as an electrician and then worked his way up to central office foreman retiring in 1982. He enjoyed yard work, gardening, fishing, and was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers. Mr. Atchley also was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother, and a granddaughter, Sarah DuBose. Ross is survived by his loving family, daughter Glenna Perrin of Sherman; sons Gary Atchley and wife Deborah of Brownwood; Ronnie Atchley and wife Karen of Ft. Worth; daughter Kristi DuBose and husband Stephen of Overton, Texas; grandchildren Rachel Mitchell and husband Tim of Allen; Alyson Deweber and husband Steve of Denison; Emily Ortiz and husband Ernie of Howe; Brad Atchley of Plano; Kandace Lain and husband Nathan of Ft. Worth; Amy Morgan and husband Sam of North Richland Hills; and Adam DuBose of Nacogdoches; ten great grandchildren; a sister Frieda Taunton of Lubbock; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Celebration of Life service for Ross was held Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Fairview Baptist Church with Stephen DuBose, son-in-law, officiating. Interment followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park cemetery with Tim Mitchell, Steve Deweber, Ernie Ortiz, Brad Atchley, Adam DuBose, Sam Morgan, Michael McDonald, and Matthew Harbour serving as pallbearers. The United States Navy honors team performed military rites at the cemetery Memorials may be made in honor of Mr. Atchley to the Home Hospice of Grayson County 505 West Center Sherman, Texas, 75090.
