Established 1948 R. Colleen Able 1926 - Guy E. Able 1928 - 1987 Sherman Democrat 23 July 1987 pg-B-11 Guy E. Able of Denison, 59-year-old retired Montgomery Ward manager, died Wednesday at a Sherman hospital. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. in Cedarlawn Memorial Park, conducted by Rev. John Earl Taylor and Rev. Tom Price of the First United Methodist Church. Arrangements were by Waldo Funeral Home. Mr. Able was born in Sherman, a son of Guy L. and Myrtle Battles Able, and married Colleen Jaco on December 22, 1945, in Sherman. He was a graduate of Sherman High School and served in the Merchant Marines before beginning his career with Montgomery Ward as a commission shoe salesman. He was a manager of stores in Abilene, Albuquerque, San Antonio, El Paso, and for 21 years at the store in Lawton, Oklahoma, before retiring in November 1986 from the Sherman store. Mr. Able was former president of Lawton Y.M.C.A., Salvation Army Advisory Board, director of Lawton Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Lawton Downtown Kiwanis Club, Lawton Industrial Development Service, Lawton Action Task Force Committee and Cerebral Palsey Handicap School. He served on the board of trustees and as finance committee chairman of the Lawton First United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife; sons, Terry K. Able of Lawton; Guy Able, Jr. of Irving; and Frang G. Able of Garland; sister, Linda Able Cherry of Garland; two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Sherman, Home Hospice of Grayson County or the American Cancer Society.
