The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, January 26, 1908 pg. 1 Mrs. Pete Lynn Dead Mrs. Peter Lynn who had resided east of the city one and a half miles for the past twenty years and more died Tuesday morning. The old lady has been an invalid for several years. About ten years ago her husband died and left her alone on the little farm east of the city. She has lead a lonely life, having but few visitors. Her true friends have been Mrs. Maud Johnson and her sister, Miss Clara Evans, who have passed many a day looking after the forelorn woman. Mrs. Lynn came to Denison with her husband in 1873. They started the first brick yard and built the first brick house in Denison; there were the true type of the early pioneer. At one time they were comparative speaking very well to do people, owning several brick houses in Denison. But by poor management they lost almost everything. Before they came to Texas they lived in Kansas and Missouri. Mrs. Lynn was a very interesting old woman. The latch string always hung on the outside to those who cared to pay their respects; her heart was large and generous, and while there was meat in the pot and bread in the larder the dear old woman would divide with you. She was our neighbor on Paradise Heights and a good neighbor, sometimes a little blunt and peculiar but the heart was right. She had cultivated the little farm and made both ends meet, although sometimes it was a hard struggle, as she was obliged to perform nearly all the farm duties. She died in the Catholic faith and the father was with her when the critical period arrived. We say peace to Mary Jane's ashes. The life here was not without its trials and tribulations, but when the books are balanced there will be a large credit to the dear old soul who has at last found peace and rest in the little hole in the ground to which we must all come at last.
