The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, November 20, 1904 pg. 4 DEAD The Gazetteer regrets to chronicle the death of our pioneer citizen John Collet which occurred at his home west of the city last Sunday. Mr. Collet had been in feeble health for a long time, owing to his advanced years. He contracted a severe cold which terminated in death. Mr. Collet was one of the very first to cast his lot with Denison. He lived for a number of years east of the railway track, near Oakwood. We frequently visited him. He was a well informed and very interesting old man. Mr. Collet 25 years ago was a very active business man. He acquired considerable property. He has valuable property at Durant. In his death one of the very oldest landmarks is removed and it reminds us that the ranks of the old timers is being thinned out very fast. Mr. Collet's son, John, was with him at the time of death. He has two sons and a daughter. The burial was at Calvary Cemetery. Calvary Cemetery Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson County TXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message |
