The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, February 28, 1897 pg. 4 Michael Casey, an M. K. & T. switchman, met death in a sensational manner last Sunday at the west yards. While the cars were in motion Switchman Casey made a violent run to reach a car and set a brake. When he reached the top of the car and was passing over the running board, he was seen to stagger. Switchman Hagan's attention was called to Casey, and he went to his assistance, supporting him in his arms. Casey sollapsed and after a brief struggle died. Dr. Smith was sent for, but it was all over when he arrived. Monday a post-mortem examination was held by Drs. Bailey, Smith, and Acheson. The conclusion arrived at was that death was the result of congestion of the lungs. Several months ago Casey received injuried in the breast while switching, and there is a possibility that this had something to do with his sudden demis, as he has never been im his usual health since the accident. Switchman Casey has been a resident of Denison for some time and was highly esteemed for his many estimable traits of character. The funeral took place Tuesday and was largely attended. The order of Hebernians participated. The interment was at the Calvary Cemetery. The deceased leaves a young wife and two children to mourn his untimely death.
