Saren D. Hauber 15 December 1941 - Charles J. Hauber 8 August 1934 - 15 February 2014 wed 3 March 1962 My dad's life can be recounted in his many
achievements…his years as head counselor at Father Flanagan's Boys' Home, the
company he entrepreneured, the ministries for which he volunteered at our
church, the family he raised. However, he was so much more than the summation
of his achievements. He walked this earth, and he touched the souls of others.
This is the measure of a life. I remember going to daily mass early in the
mornings during the summer with my dad. I would go because it usually meant he
would take me out to breakfast somewhere. Sitting there drinking coffee he
would strike up a conversation with the waiter or waitress and it would become
clear he had been here before, that he already knew them. It also became clear,
that these were people who were hurting. My dad sought them out, talked with
them, gave them money if needed. But it was much more than that...what he gave
them was far more valuable - he gave them hope. This he did without thought of
recognition or reward...seeking only to touch their broken souls. A lifetime of
kindness, of charity, of humility that takes flight in the hearts of others,
this is the measure of a man… this is the measure of Charles Joseph Hauber,
