John R. Holden 1855 - 1933 Quinnie Holden 1860 - 1928 The Denison Press Firday, February 17, 1933 pg 3 JOHN R. HOLDEN, LOCAL BLACKSMITH, BURIED TUESDAY John R. Holden, 77, one of the early settlers of Denison, died here Sunday following a short illness. He had not been in the best of health for some weeks, although he was at his place of business up to within a few days of his death. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday from St. Joseph's church of which he was a member. Burial followed in Calvary cemetery. Mr. Holden was one of the early settlers of Denison, having lived here for more than fifty years, during all that time operating a blacksmith shop in the same general section of the city on West Chestnut street. Up to the last he operated the characteristic blacksmith shop, never turning his attention to the more modern way of servicing autos. To the last he drove his horse, riding in the family buckboard. He was a lover of animals and his trade made an appeal to him that could not be satisfied in mending autos. Deceased is survived by five sons: Charles, Leo and William, all of Denison, John of Ada, Oklahoma, and Dan, of Dallas; and three daughters, Mrs. J. J. Lindsay, Mrs. Roy Wilson and Mrs. Mary Kirsch, of Denison. Charles D. Holden 7 June 1885 - 10 August 1977
