Catherine Flannery 1828 - 1885 Thomas Flannery Catherine Flannery 1882 - 1883 Sedalia (MO) Weekly Bazoo September 22, 1885 p. 6 Young Flannery Returns Home Without Being Cured. Wm. Flannery, formerly a section foreman on the M.K. & T. at Denison, Texas, was in the city yesterday on his way home from Indianapolis, Ind., where he had been for treatment for injuries received by an accident while on duty. His story is a remarkable and very sad one, and dates back to June 23, 1883, at which date he was riding on the pilot of an engine looking over the track when a cow was struck by the engine and Flannery was knocked headlong from the pilot, striking upon his shoulders with such force as to dislocate his spine and paralyze his lower limbs. He was bought to Sedalia for treatment but remained a helpless cripple, though otherwise regaining his usual health. Returning to his home at Denison, he remained there until last July, when accompanied by his mother, he went to Indianapolis for treatment at the famous institute in that city. About one week ago his mother was taken ill and died, and finding himself without help and the treatment of no avail, Flannery decided to return home to Denison. He is a young man of fine physique and handsome appearance and his condition is cause for regret and commiseration.
