Dr. A.H. Palms
1920 - 2017

Margaret Palms
1926 - 2021

Our saintly and precious mother, Margaret Agnes Mazanec Palms passed peacefully at her home on June 8, 2021, supported by her beloved daughter, Judy, and her devoted caregiver, Adele.
Margaret was considered by all who knew her to be the perfect wife and mother.  In her 70 year marriage to Deacon Dr. Howard Palms she gave never ending support to his religious and professional duties.  As a veterinarian's wife for 26 years, she handled the business aspects of his practice, including accounting, assisting with surgeries, and hosting litters of newborn puppies in her kitchen overnight.
In her 43 years as a Catholic Deacon's wife, Margaret was constantly by his side participating in his Deacon duties, such as researching and writing homilies, assisting with communion and giving readings at Mass.  She tirelessly volunteered at Church activities at St. Monica Church in Dallas, St. Jude Church in Gunbarrel, and St. Patrick Church in Denison.  Margaret served in each of those parishes as Advocate for the Marriage Tribunal, the official ecclesiastical court of each diocese, and coordinated marriage encounter groups for young Catholic couples.
Margaret was invited and installed as a Lady of the Holy Sepulcher, pledging to assist the spiritual and charitable works of the Catholic Church.  On her many religious pilgrimages with Deacon Palms in the U.S. and abroad, she received personal blessings from five different Popes, as well as Saint Theresa of Calcutta.
She was born Margaret Agnes Mazanec on August 20, 1926, daughter of Edward George and Agnes Emilie Jezek Mazanec and grew up on the idyllic family farm in Waco, Texas, before attending Baylor University.
She is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Deacon Dr. Ange Howard Palms; sister, Betty Mazanec Bessire; and brother, Edward George Mazanec, II.
Margaret is survived by her 5 adoring children, Robert Palms of Branson, Missouri; Edward Palms of Greenwood, Colorado; Peggy Palms- Barrett of Fairfield, Iowa; Nancy Palms-Reed of Denison, Texas; and Judy Palms-Doan of Denison, Texas.  She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren: Natalie Popplewell of Denison, Texas; Kenyon Reed of Redding, California; Keith Chapman of Franklin, Tennessee; Elizabeth Palms of Dallas, Texas; and Kristin Mitchell of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 2 great-grandchildren, Taylor McDonald of Howe, Texas, and Madeline Mitchell of Watauga, Texas; and 1 great-great-grandchild, Sophia Geer of Howe, Texas.  Known as MeMe to all her brood, her greatest delight was to have all the children and grandchildren together for family gatherings.
Funeral Mass for Margaret was held Thursday morning, June 17, 2021 at St. Patricks Catholic Church with Father Stephen Mocio officiating.  She was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.  Rosary was recited Wednesday evening, June 16, 2021 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. - - - Fisher Funeral Home

After 97 years of service to Christ, Deacon Dr. Ange Howard Palms passed peacefully, at his home this New Years Eve, surrounded by loved ones and his favorite books, images and scriptures.  Deacon Palms leaves a long legacy of accomplishments, from raising a large family, to caring for the pets of Texas residents in his veterinary medicine practice, to 43 years of service to the Catholic church as a Deacon.
After graduation from Texas A&M University with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1945, he served in the U.S. Army relief mission to restore the devastation of Europe after World War II. His first civilian job as a veterinarian was caring for horses and cattle for the famous King Ranch, which set the precedent for his years of providing veterinarian services to remote farms and ranches where he arrived in his small airplane and often rode out on horseback. He rode horseback even up into his 80s. In 1960 he started the Preston Center Pet Clinic, one of the first businesses in North Dallas' Preston Center, which clinic exists to this day.
After years of intense formation, Dr. Palms was ordained as a Deacon in 1974 and served through St. Monica Church in Dallas, St. Jude Church in Gunbarrel and most recently St. Patrick's Church in Denison where he regularly performed the sacraments of baptism, marriages and assisted with homilies and communion at Mass.   Deacon Palms was well known for his relentless charity work, tirelessly helping those who were sick, poor, and needy at every opportunity.
Deacon Palms has been a proud member of the Knights of Columbus for 70 years, where he served as Acting Chaplain and Minister of Charity. In his many religious pilgrimages in the U.S. and abroad, he received personal  blessings from 5 different Popes, as well as Saint Teresa of Calcutta.
Deacon Palms was born October 30, 1920, son of Robert and Louise Palms of Dallas, who, along with his sister, Roberta Schnitzus, predeceased him.
Deacon Palms is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret Mazanec Palms; his 5 children, Robert Palms of Branson, Missouri; Edward Palms of Greenwood, Colorado; Peggy Palms-Barrett of Boone, North Carolina; Nancy Palms-Reed of Denison, Texas; and Judy Palms of Denison, Texas.  He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren: Natalie Popplewell of Denison, Texas; Kenyon Reed of Redding, California; Keith Chapman of Franklin, Tennessee; Elizabeth Palms of Greenwood, Colorado; and Kristin Palms of Dallas, Texas; 2 great-grandchildren, Taylor McDonald of Howe, Texas and Madeline Mitchell of Watauga, Texas; and one great-great-grandchild, Sophia   Greer of Howe, Texas.
Funeral Mass was held Friday morning, January 5, 2018 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Stephen Mocio officiating. He was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.  Rosary was recited Thursday evening, January 4, 2018 at St. Patrick Catholic church. - - - Fisher Funeral Home
