Nancy Hoover Clountz




Nancy Hoover  was born July 10, 1852 in Virginia, daughter of Thomas Nicholas Hoover and Sarah Ann Mowry. She died December 26. 1923 in Grayson Co., Texas.  On February 20, 1872, Nancy Hoover married W. Marion Clountz, son of William Clountz and Anna Blair.  Marion was born March 25, 1845 in Greene Co., Ohio, and died June 3, 1918 in Grayson, Texas. Nancy Hoover Clountz came to Texas in 1877 where they first lived in the Oak Grove community between Denison and Pottsboro, and later moved NW of Pottsboro.  She was a lifelong member of the Methodist church. She died at her home near Pottsboro at 8:30 am.  Burial was a Oak Grove cemetery, George Shields, funeral director, officiating.

Nancy's mother, Sarah Sally Mowery Hoover Goodman is known as the "Stump Woman," of Georgetown Cometary.  All she had for a grave marker until 2013 was a Bois d'Arc fence post as a gravestone. It was in the NE corner of the Georgetown Cemetery, next to the three young children of Alex and Doll Moser.
