Thursday, May 6, 1937 Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bethel Baptist Church for J.W. McCormic, 78, who died at 9 a.m. Monday at his home here. Mr. McCormic had started to town but returned to his home complaining of feeling faint. He died a few minutes later. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.A. Henderson and under the direction of R.R. Waldo. Pallbearers were Taylor Aubrey, Howard Hedgpeth, Earl Fields, Don Andrews, D. Blanks, and Jack Biggerstaff. He was born May 10, 1859 at Nashville, Tennessee, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. McCormic, and married Mrs. Helen Magers at Springfield, Missouri in 1898. They came to Grayson County in 1902. Mr. McCormic lived 13 years at Bethel before moving to Whitewright several years ago. He was a member of the Pilot Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are his widow and 6 stepchildren, S.G. Goren of Lake Dallas; Bill and John Goren of Kansas City; J.M. Magers of Madisonville, South Carolina; C.E. Majers of Slaton; and Mrs. Ollie Reynolds of Whitewright. She married James Goren on April 1 4, 1877 in Glasgow, Barren County, Kentucky. She married John McCormic about 1898, based on John's obituary. 1900 Census Shows she had 3 children & 3 living but marriage and death records for children verify t hat she was the mother to 4 sons: S amuel Gideon Goren, born 8 June 1876; William Napoleon Goren (Gorn), born 24 August 1879; Jo hn Rogers Goren, born 29 August 1880; and Leon Joshua Goren, born 27 April 1881. 1910 Census Joshua is the only child living with his mother and her second husband, John McCormic.
