of North Texas Since 1871 Dies at 91 Years of Age B.F. Blanton, 91,
died at his home in Whitewright Saturday at 11 a.m. after an illness of
only a few days. Mr. Blanton was born in North Carolina Nov.
11,
1843, the son of B. E. and Mary Blanton. He had been a member
of
the
Baptist church since 15 years of age. He became a deacon of the church while in North Carolina.. Mr. Blanton and his wife came to Texas from North Carolina in 1871, settling near Ely in Fannin county, in a log house on 22 acres of land. They moved to Bethel, Grayson county, in 1876 where they lived until moving to Whitewright in 1930. Mr. Blanton's grandfather served as a private in the American revolutionary army and Mr. Blanton served in the Confederate army during the civil war. Being a retired farmer and ginner Mr. Blanton at one time owned over 500 acres of land and at the time of his death owned 150 acres and his homeplace. He retired from active farm life five years ago when he first moved to Whitewright. He bought his first automobile shortly after his ninety-first birthday last fall. He and his wife went driving daily in the car, although he did not drive himself but his daughter drove for him daily. Mr. Blanton and his wife celebrated their sixty-ninth wedding anniversary last Oct. 12. Mr. Blanton was the father of 10 children, the following eight of whom are living. Mrs. W. B. BLANTON - Funeral services for Benjamin Franklin Blanton, 91, were held
at 3:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Bethel Baptist Church,

miles south of Whitewright, conducted by Rev.J. L.
Truett.
He was assisted by Rev. J.R. Hilger of Greenville, Rev. J. A.
Henderson and Rev. Sherman Democrat Whitewright Sun Funeral
services for Mrs. Julia Blanton, Whitewright's oldest citizen, who died
at 9 p.m. Thursday at her home on South Bond street, were held at 2:30
.m. Saturday at the Bethel Baptist Church, four miles south of
Whitewright of which she as a charter member. The services
ere
conducted by Rev. E. P. Wooten, pastor of the First Baptist Church of
Whitewright, assisted by Rev. E. M. Atherling, Sherman.
Active
pallbearers were grandsons, Orbia Blanton, San Antonio; Cecil Blanton,
Wichita Falls; ?Clarence Teel, Electra; Truman Teel, Dallas; Howard
Badgett, College Station and Roy Blanton, Whitewright.
Burial was at the Bethel Cemetery, directed by Glen Earnheart....Had Mrs. Blanton lived until August 4th she would have been 100 years old. She was active for one of her age up to about a year ago. She was the widow of B. F. Blanton, who died in 1935 at the age of 92. They were married in 1865 and ere one of the few couples that lived to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. It is said that about one couple in a million live to concelebrate their 65th anniversary Julia Ann Blanton, a daughter of Stephen and Sarah Blanton, Mr.. and Mrs. Blanton came to Texas in 1871 and settled near Ely, where they resided six years before moving to the Bethel community. They resided in the Bethel community until they moved to Whitewright in 1930. She had been a member of the Bethel Baptist Church for nearly 70 years. She was born August 4, 1847, in Rutherford County, North Carolina. While her maiden name was the same as her husband they were not related. She was the mother of ten children, five of whom survive. She was 14 when the war between the states disrupted her life. Her father and young Blanton both served in the Confederate Army. After her marriage to Mr. Blanton the couple came to Texas in a nine-wagon train, traveling 11 weeks to reach Fannin County. Mr. Blanton operated a gin and store in the Bethel community for many years. Survivors are three sons, J.F. Blanton, Lubbock; Jesse Blanton, Houston, Albert Blanton, Oklahoma City; two daughters, Mrs. W.A. Badgett, Denison, and Mrs. Addie Sweatt of Whitewright, with whom her mother lived; thirty-four grandchildren, fifty-six great grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren.
