Joe Weldon Bartley, age 82, went home to be with the Lord,
Friday, April 23, 2010 at Texoma Healthcare in Sherman, Texas. He was born
February 26, 1928 at Whitewright to C.A. and Lillie Rae Stalcup Bartley.
He married the love of his life, Billie Jeane Mullins on May 21, 1951 at
McKinney, Texas.
Weldon was a farmer all of his life and retired from the Whitewright
Post Office after 37 years of service. He was also employed as a crop reporter
for the ASCS office in Sherman, Texas for a number of years and as a bookkeeper
of Donigan Gin in Whitewright during the fall seasons until it closed.
He served as deacon of the Bethel Baptist Church for 49 years and
a Sunday School Director for 18 years. He served on the Volunteer Fire
Department for several years and enjoyed helping in the Goodfellows Food
Drive. He became an active member of the Pilot Grove Baptist Church in
2005 until illness kept him from attending regularly. He served his nation
in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Weldon had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes. He
especially loved listening to and singing blue grass, gospel, and country
music.
Weldon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather,
brother and friend to many. He will be missed by his loving family and
friends.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Jeane Bartley of Whitewright;
son, Joe Michael Bartley of Whitewright; daughter, Regina Faith Kent of
Celeste; grandchildren, Bobby Michael Bartley and wife Amber of Tom Bean;
Billie Jo Ulmer and husband Chad of Whitewright; John David Kent and wife
Abra of Celeste; Tony Kent of Celeste; Kasia Kent of New York; Martin Kent
of Plano; great-grandchildren, Reed, Chas, Zy, Rylan, and Lindsay; brother,
Jack Bartley and wife Betty of Whitewright; sister, Patty Goss and husband
Lynn of Garland; number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death
by his parents, and brother Billy Bartley.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, April 26, 2010 at
Pilot Grove Baptist Church, Pilot Grove, Texas. Officiating the service
will be Rev. Don Hollister. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Whitewright,
Texas. Pallbearers will be John David Kent, Martin Kent, Tony Kent, Bobby
Bartley, Chad Ulmer, and Mac Williams.
Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience
on Sunday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family
will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday, April 25, 2010 from
3-5pm at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Whitewright, Texas.
Memorials may be made to Pilot Grove Baptist Church Building Fund
or to the Bethel Cemetery Association.
Arrangements are with Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Whitewright,
Texas.
