DEATH FOLLOWS OPERATION
Eliza [sic] Sloan, eldst son of Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Sloan, residing southeast of this city, died last Thursday night.  The young man's illness was of brief duration.  He was stricken with a virulent infection of the bone of the leg, and which before his death, appeared in other parts of the body, a trouble that might be described, though, incorrectly, as erysipelas of the bone.  The case one was considerably out of the ordinary and quite rare to the medical profession.  Young Sloan was in serious condition from the beginning and it was decided by the attending and consulting physicians that an operation was the only hope for his restoration.  As stated in the Sun last week, the operation was performed Tuesday, incisions being made in the leg and side from which pus flowed freely.
The decedent was about seventeen years of age, having just reached the citadel of young manhood and with a future roseate with promise and hope.  The funeral was at Bethel cemetery Friday afternoon at four o'clock and was attended by oneof the largest crowds that has been seen at this city of the dead.  Rev. Capps, the local pastor at Bethel, and Rev. I.E. Teague, the veteran minister, conducted the services at the graveside.
