In Memory of J.F.  Holland
Our community was made sad on Monday, May 30 at 10:45, when the death angel entered the home of one of the pioneer families of the Bethel community and took J.F. Holland which has left a vacant place that makes us sad indeed.  Yet we realize that words fail, and tears of sympathy cannot heal the wound of the vacant chair in the home; that the loved ones are so bereaved by his absence, that his voice will not be heard in this life again.  The most comforting thought to them and to us must be that he is not dead but is sleeping just over the river, in the city of God's kingdom prepared for the good. Not dead but sleeping. He has met hte mandate that all must sooner or later meet and pass.  He was so patient during his sickness that he endeared himself to all who knew him and he is missed by all who knew him.
The deceased had been in declining health for the past year.  He was born April 3, 1853.  He was married to Miss Eliza Bradley March 29, 1878.  He is survived by his wife; 11 children; 11 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild; and one brother, A.E. Holland of Chattanooga, Tennessee, who was unable to come on account of illness in his family.
Mr. Holland has been a member of the Baptist Church since early manhood, being one of the charter members of the Bethel Baptist Church.
The funeral service was held at Bethel Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. T.B. Randolph of Linden, assisted  by Bro. Lindsey of Greenville, the pastor.  Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery.
Among the out-of-town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Bradley and son, Frank; and F.G. Bradley of Abilene; Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Canon and daughter Margaret, Merkel; Mrs. Sam Mashburn, Mrs. H.O. Miller, Mrs. Elbert West and W.E. Bradley of Stith; Judge Dayton B. Steed and Rev. E.M. Atherton, Sherman. - - - A Friend
