Funeral services for
Jim P. Isom, 47, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Bethany church,
five miles northeast of Sherman, conducted by the Rev. C. Chumbley, Howe
Baptist minister. Interment will be in Bethany cemetery under the direction
of the Talley Funeral home. Mr. and Mrs. Barney Caughey are to sing at
the services.
Mr. Isom died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in a local hospital after a
heart attack Wednesday afternoon at his home on route 1.
He was born in Grayson county and had lived in the county all his
life, for the last eight years occupying his route 1 home. He had been
a farmer all his life.
Surviving relatives include four sisters, Mrs. Jack Fleenor, Mrs.
Lillian Hestand and Mrs. Paul Gaskell, all of Denison, and Miss Juanita
Isom of Leonard; three brothers, Fred Isom of Denison, Oscar Isom of Monroe
and L.C. Isom of Fort Worth, and three stepchildren,
Mrs. L.S. Venerable,
Olin Stalnaker and Gus Stalnaker, all of Sherman.
Pallbearers will be Jess Mercer, H.E. Orr, Clyde Watkins, W.B. Long,
H.C. Mercer and Grover Knox. The body will remain at the funeral home until
time for the services.

Boy Drowned Near Sherman,
Wilson James Isom Had Been Swimming in Lake Near Home
Last rites for Wilson James Isom, 18, who
was drowned Thursday afternoon
while in swimming at the lake at his home, three miles southwest
of
Sherman, were held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Bethany church conducted
by
the Rv. C. Chumbley of Howe. Burial was in the Bethany cemetery
under
the direction of the Talley Funeral home of Sherman. Pallbearers
were Tom Johns, Melvin Jobe, Colquit Orr, Bill Orr, Frank Scott,
Raymond Bell, Guy Flanery, Ed Goff and Nolen Caughey.
Isom was
drowned after a futile attempt to save his life was made by Gus
Stalnaker, a half-brother. Mr. Stalnaker, his wife and the victim's
mother, Mrs. Jim P. Isom, were with the youth when he lost his hold
on
a raft he was swimming around and went down. Stalnaker plunged into
the water and started to shore with the boy. But the youth slipped
from
his hands and with Stalnaker and the others looking on went down.
His
body was found an hour later.
Surviving are the parents, two half-
brothers, Mr. Stalnaker and Ollin Stalnaker of Denison, and a half-sister,
Mrs. Luther Venable.
Isom lived with his parents on the farm. He had lived
in Grayson county all his life, being born September 30, 1914 in Bethany. Mr.
Isom, the father had lived in and near Sherman for the last 25 years.
