John Bloyd, Esqr
Greensburg, Kentucky
Green County

I received your kind letter dated Apr. 15th, which informed me that you and family was as well as usual and all went to the election...I wrote to you and also to Robert Graham, informing you of the sad and melancholly and heart tendering event that took place on the 24th of March last, the death of my wife 1853....I have met with difficulties and troubles I have thought sufficient to brake the heart of any man but this last affliction was greater than all to be left in a distant country with my little children is almost too much for a poor frail human nature to endure, I am the most unhappy man you ever saw.
I informed you in my last letter of all my afflictions out of nine girls, four only are left.....
There has been a great deal of sickness in this county and a great many deaths.  Dr. J.L. Heiston, died a few days ago with the same fever, alson one of his children and also one of his negroes.  You can inform Clarissie's sisters that everything in the way of attention and medical aid was exhausted in trying to save her but it seemed that her hour had come...."

Your ever true and devoted friend and brother,
Respectfully, Anthony M. Bryant.
