Pittman, a generous Methodist and large landowner indentured in trust
to the Batsell Methodist Church a 4-acre tract of land, triangular in
shape, to be used as the site for the church buiilding and cemetery on

"Batsell Cemetery is located 2 miles north of Kentucky Town and is immediately next to Chapel Branch (first called Camp Branch) along which Quantrill and his band of Civil War guerilla camped during the winter of 1862-1863. They also returned the next 2 winters but the band had grown in numbers and spread out to other camp sites." (Letter to the Editor: About Kentucky Town.
