Sadler Mayor Dies Two Days After Election
SADLER - Services for the Rev. Carrol F. Cody,
65-year-old three-term
Sadler mayor, retired Perrin Air Force Base civil service employee and
minister who died Monday at his home in Sadler, will be held at 2 p.m.
Wednesday in Huff Funeral Chapel of Whitesboro.
The Rev. Joe Patterson of the Central Baptist Church of Whitesboro
and Billy Miller, Church of Christ minister, will officiate. Burial
will
be in Basin Springs Cemetery.
Rev. Cody was born in Higden, Ark., a son of Mr. and Mrs. Orvil Cody,
and married Glennis Fay Greene in 1938 in Sadler. She died in 1968 and
he married Hazel Weaver of Sadler in 1974.
A World War II veteran, he had been a member of the American Legion
41 years and served as Fourth District Commander and
Chaplain. He
was elected mayor of Sadler in 1980 and re-elected in 1981 and on April
2, 1983.
He had been a Sadler area resident since 1940 and was a member of
Mt. Hope Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife; son, Jimmy Cody of Sadler; stepsons, Jimmie
Weaver and Danny Weaver both of Gainesville and Mike Weaver of Sadler;
daughters, Barbara Gotcher of Flint, Mary Anderson and Susan Moody,
both
of Arlington; stepdaughters, Velma Hale and Sandra Youngblood both of
Taft,
Calif. And Jessie Dick of Whitesboro; brothers Fred Cody and Harold
Cody
of Centralia, Ill. And Harvey Cody of Sherman; sister, Mae Belle
Dennington
of Bonham; 5 grandchildren, 16 step grandchildren and eight step great
grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be members of the American Legion.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 pm Tuesday and
other times at the family residence in Sadler.
