SHERMAN - Funeral services for Jessie Stroup were held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Parkview Church of Christ. Welton Stoker of the church officiated with Orange Hughes, Bob Brooks, Charles Ives, Jim Milton, Wilburn Grissom, and Hubert Baker serving as pallbearers. Mrs. Stroup,75, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison.
Jessie was born June 23, 1934 in Waco, Texas to the late Roy and Georgia Stone. She was raised in the Granbury area and married Marcus Stroup on July 4, 1953 in the Love Field Church of Christ in Dallas. Jessie and Marcus lived in Farmers Branch for 14 years before moving to Sherman where they have lived for the past 41 years. Jessie worked as an insurance secretary and sales clerk.
She also worked as secretary for the Woods Street Church of Christ for many years and was always eager to assist church members with the Lord's work. Throughout the years she participated in two strenuous Evangelism Campaigns in several areas including West New York. Jessie taught Youth and Ladies Bible Classes for many years and was an active member of the church's Bus Ministry. She was currently a member of the Parkview Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband Marcus Stroup of Sherman; daughter, Laura Payne of Sherman; brother, Claude Stone of Granbury; and sister, Kathy Newman of Dallas. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son David Stroup, and a son-in-law, James Payne.
