Van Alstyne - Margery Anne Downey, 91, of Van Alstyne, formerly of Danville, Illinois, passed into the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Meadowbrook Care Center.
She was born August 29, 1922 in Butterfield, Minnesota, daughter of Roy and Mildred Sullivan Cunningham. She married William Downey in 1962. He preceded her in death. She attended schools in Danville, Illinois and graduated from the Danville School of Practical Nursing in 1966. She worked in the nursing field for many years until her retirement.
She is survived by daughters: Teresa York and husband, Joseph, of Wylie; Annette Walker; sons: Kenneth Downey and wife, Charlene, of Tom Bean; David Ping and wife, Dorne, of Marble Falls; Gene Maines of Van Alstyne; David Downey and wife, Janie, of Sherman; Harold Downey and wife, Robyn, of South Carolina; and Matthew Downey of Dallas; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Karen Wynn and husband Richard of Danville, Illinois; brother, Donald Cunningham and wife, Esther of Danville, Illinois.
She and her husband also had 36 foster children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mildred Cunningham; brothers, Dean Cunningham and Brad Cunningham; and grandson, Robert Pink.
Funeral service was held Saturday afternoon, December 28, 2013 at Scoggins Funeral H me, Van Alstyne with Rev. Bob Snodgrass officiating. Burial followed in Akers Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home.
