Water Tops Spillway at Lake Texoma
1957, 1990, 2007, 2015


On March 10, 2015  Lake Texoma was reviving from a several years' drought and was just 3 feet below full level, as reported by Channel 9 news in Oklahoma City.  In just over 2 months, for the fourth time in its history (1944 - 2015), Lake Texoma had topped it's spillway on Sunday morning, May 24, 2015 at approximately 4 a.m., rising to 640 feet above sea level.  The water will take a path back into the Red River.
On Thursday, May 21st, all six floodgates were partially opened releasing water at 35,100 cubic feet of water per second.
Hundreds of people flocked to the spillway to take photographs and capture the history making moment on video.

According to KTEN, Channel, Texoma the Lake Texoma officially rose to a historic level at 5:00 a.m. of 645.2 feet, about half foot higher than the record high in 1990.  The hundreds of families that visited Lake Texoma to see the raging waters witnessed a historic day in the history of Lake Texoma.  According the to Army Corps of Engineers predict that when the water recedes the amount of 170,000 cubic feet of water rushing downstream will move a lot of sediment and contribute to erosion of the banks.  There will definitely be some stream bed changes as a result.


Bridge over Lake Ray Roberts, just south about 1/2 mile from Tioga and between Tioga and Collinsville.
