Burns Run summer 1953 Burns
Run Resort was a popular beach resort area. The Denison office
of the National Park Service began preparatory work in 1947 for Burns
Run resort in the Lake Texoma area. Between the parking area and
the beach, tables were constructed so that there is an area for picnics
for those visiting the beach. Weeds and brush in the area were
cleaned out and a layer of top soil and Bermuda grass was planted.
Later the water was dragged to clear it of all brush so the
public would have a long, gradually sloping sanded lake bottom. A
grove of trees near the main road was thinned and converted into a
picnic grounds with picnic tables, benches, fireplaces and toilet
facilities. (The Denison Press, Friday, February 21, 1947, pg. 1) In 1957 we were floating in the water and the top of the concession stand could barely be seen above water level. Normally the resort is several hundred feet from the water's edge.
