Mr. J.W. Hubbard has constructed at his won expense a substantial bridge across Big Mineral, on the direct road to this city from Gainesville, Whitesboro, Milligan's Bend, etc., which will prove of no little advantage to Denison, as well as a convenience to farmers and others living along that road.  He is certainly entitled to the thanks of our citizens especially for the bridge has long been greatly needed, but no one else had the enterprise to build it.  The bridge cost him $2,500.

Captain Sutherland has purchased from Jessie Cook the toll-bridge across Big Mineral, about 16 miles from the city, on the Gainesville road, and also the charter, which does not expire for some 18 years.  The Captain leaves this morning (Saturday) for Big Mineral, and will go to work immediately to put the bridge in good repair.  He has recently purchased a farm in the vicinity of the bridge, and will remove there in a few days.  By February 11 the toll bridge across the Big Mineral had been completed.  (The Denison Daily News, Thursday, February 12, 1874, pg. 3)  At the end of April Southerland's toll bridge on the Gainesville road was once again washed away in a rain, but Captain Southerland said he would have the bridge repaired within ten days.  However, Hubbard's bridge, 7 miles above was not damaged.  (The Denison Daily News, Tuesday, April 21, 1874, pg. 3)

At the Board of Trade meeting last Wednesday night the road committee was instructed to select two of their number to represent the Board at the meeting of citizens of Cedar Mills, on Big Mineral, the 18th inst., to consider the propriety of building a bridge across Big Mineral at Rocky Ford crossing.
At the meeting of the Board of Trade on June 10, 1874 the President described the advantages of acquiring the bridge over Big Mineral at Cedar Mills and the secretary was appointed as a committee of one to collect from the Board members and businessmen $500 which would insure the building of the bridge.  (The Denison Daily News, June 12, 1874, pg.3)

The Court authorized Commissioner E.W. McAden of Precinct 4 to take out the old Mineral Creek bridge at Flowing Wells in the reservoir area and to use the iron and other salavaged materials to work in his precinct.  (The Denison Gazetteer, July 29, 1888)

A sudden squall on the Big Mineral arm of Lake Texoma capsized a small fishing boat and drowned two of the three men aboard about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, October 28th.  According to the survivor's account of the drownings, he had gone in the outboard motor boat to the old Flowing Wells iron bridge standing in the lake some distance from the east shore of Big Mineral.  (The Denison Press, Friday, November 3, 1944, pg.1)
