ON TO WHITESBORO
The T. & P. Soon to be Completed to Whitesboro
From the Gainesville Register

The Register has information from sources of undoubted reliability that the management of the Texas & Pacific road has determined to push that road to Whitesboro within the next 90 days. Order have been issued to secure depot ground at the place and settle all right of way troubles left unadjusted. The depot is to be north of the town. Much sport has been made of contractor Haden, who, with 4 or 5 teams has been nearly 2 years working on the grade from Sherman to Whitesboro, but it seems he is to have reinforcements now, and his "lifetime contract" is to be closed out in short oder.
The forward movement of the T. & P. is a compulsory one. The completion of the Denison & Pacific to Gainesville has diverted much of the trade of this section to the M. K. & T., and in order to compete with that road the T. & P. must have a connection with the D. & P. By coming to Whitesboro they will have as good, if not better chance at the western business as the M. K. & T. We learn that they have satisfactory arrangements with the Denison & Pacific in regard to the tarriff from Gainesville to Whitesboro. Another reason for connecting with the D. & P. at Whitesboro is to accomodate the lumber trade. The great bulk of the lumber used in all northwestern Texas comes from the pineries over the T. & P. As the matter now stands they can get no further west than Sherman by rail except by paying local rates from Belleplain to Denison over the D. & S.E., and then over the D. & P. to Gainesville. With their own line through to Whitesboro, they will have only local tarriff from Whitesboro to Gainesville.
The day is near at hand, however, when the Texas & Pacific will push on west from Whitesboro. It is more than probable they will reach Gainesville in time to compete for next season's cotton and cattle trade. They cannot afford to let the D. & P. reap the great harvest in store another season, and if they have the money that they claim to have secured, will certainly push on to Gainesville in a short time.
