Texas and Pacific Railroad
The following was contributed by Mr. Marvin Woodard of Texarkana, Arkansas, who was employed as an engineer by this railroad. This division on the TEXAS & PACIFIC RAILROAD went
west from Texarkana to Clarksville, to Paris, to Bonham, to Sherman,
to Whitesboro,
to Denton, and on to Ft. Worth, Texas. Records of
the Texas and Pacific Railroad
The dates at the end of each name indicate the
date of employment. Some of these men stayed with
the railroad
as long as they could physically work. One story Mr.
Woodard stated
was one engineer said at age of 75 years young that
if he could just
last another ten years, he would have his family pretty
well set.
The very earliest date listed for this
division of the
railroad was 12 July 1884. In some of the list, names appear more
than once as they advanced from firemen up to engineer,
as did
J. P. Zimmerman, who was hired as fireman in 2 August 1908 and advanced
up
to engineer
19 January 1920.
